Your going to make me go through this painful experience?
I assume you have found your way to this page because you wanted to know something about the guy who writes this blog. Honestly I hate doing the whole “talking about myself” sorta thing, probably because I am just plain no good at it. Since you ask…
My passion is web design
Ah sounds cheesy doesn’t it? Feels cheesy to write also… but I guess we all need something we love to do and the web is mine. I started building site commercially over ten years ago and was hooked ever since. As you can imagine, over ten years I have managed to do a bunch of other extracurricular activities related to the profession.
I often feel like the kid who can’t wait to remind the teacher to assign homework before the class ends, but if you can make a living doing what you like why question it eh?
So what are your qualifications you no good son of a bitch?
Woah, calm down there. If I were to brag about myself I would ramble about co-founding Refresh Detroit, co-hosting WebAxe, and generally stating that I am sweet and that is qualification enough. In the past few years I started teaching at Washtenaw Community College and I have been running a web design company for about 4.5 now.
Is this worth reading?
That is for you to judge. There are those who will find meaning and value in my posts and others who would rather read content that is formatted in lists. Both have their time and place, I just tend to write more articles then lists.
Cheers

Thanks for the post Alex. I really like your site, both in the design and the content. It is very well written and gives a good sense of the creativity/funky-ness of your company.
Thanks for the comment!

Thanks Ross,
The mad design skillz were provided by one of my adjunct designers, Dan Wilt (http://www.enhancedinnovations.com), I simply brought the xhtml/css and the copy-tude.
I’ve been getting a lot of positive feedback on my content, so it looks like I got it right!
Cheers,
Alex

Why have you used Gill Sans for your body font? I find it really difficult to read even across 3 different browsers. This is not good usabilty

Just a personal observance here, but on the about me page don’t you think it would be a good idea to refer to yourself in something other than first person “I” at least once. Going to your business domain I see your real name in the footer, but that’s having to dig pretty deep to know a little bit more about who the hell is “I”.
Hope I’m not blowing your alter ego status all to hell, lol.

Hi Ross!
I’m not sure I ended up on your site (a link to your article on “8 fonts you probably don’t use in css, but should” caught my eye - but not sure what brought me there!).
I found myself bookmarking the first 7 articles listed in your RSS feed to read later (supposed to be focused on a project or two!). Before I look at the 8th, wanted to leave a quick note to say “hi”, since I have a feeling I’ll be spending a bit of time on your site
I love your site’s design, by the way. Clean and striking are the two adjectives that first pop into my head.
Looking forward to reading your blog!
Best wishes,
Faryl

Had to leave a comment.
The new blue was quite a stark contrast to your previous red when I opened your blog for my usual read. I really like it. Softer on the eyes, yet retaining that contrast and sleekness of the previous colour. Red is my favourite colour, yet somehow, this looks so much better.
Nice change. And apparently, a change is as good as a holiday. Now if only i could change my useless posting habits…

Thanks so much Tosh, glad you like the change.
I originally did it as we are reworking our corporate identity a tad and moving from a red and blue color scheme to focusing more on just owning this shade of blue. I felt the blog should be consistent, and was surprised at how much I liked it after I threw it all together.
And to twist an old saying, “There are no useless posts”

I’ve been reading your blog at least for a year and just realized your office is two blocks up from my office. My office is on first street. If I knew where you were located (and the plottings going on at the office) I would have recommended your company for a few redesign initiatives going on.
As it is now, I’ve begun seeding your company’s name at the office. Hopefully I can get some business your way sometime soon.
